Chile Holidays
Spanning more than 2,600 miles from north to south, Chile is a land of startling contrasts: the lunar landscapes and star-filled skies of the Atacama Desert, the vineyards around Santiago, the volcanoes and lakes of the Lake District, and the granite towers and glaciers of Patagonia. Our tailor-made Chile holidays start from £4,000 per person, with private or small-group guiding, hand-picked lodges and flights within Chile included. Explore at your own pace on a self-drive road trip along the Carretera Austral, hike the W Trek in Torres del Paine, or combine Chile with Argentina on one of our Patagonia holidays. Our experts Scarlett, Sinead and Sam have travelled the length of the country and will design the right route for you.

Chile tailor-made holiday packages: Frequently Asked Questions
Please reach us at info@traveldifferently.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.
When is the best time to visit Chile?
Chile stretches across so many climates that there’s always somewhere good to go. November to March is the best time for Patagonia and the Lake District, with the warmest weather and longest days. The Atacama Desert can be visited all year, with crisp, clear skies for stargazing in the southern winter (June to August). March and April are harvest time in the wine valleys. Tell us when you’d like to travel, and we’ll suggest the best route.
How many days do you need in Chile?
Set aside at least two weeks for Chile, which gives you time for the Atacama Desert, Patagonia and Santiago without rushing. To really embrace slow travel, we recommend three weeks: spend a week in Santiago, Valparaíso and the wine valleys, then explore the quieter Lake District, Chiloé and the Atacama. See our Slow Travel: Chile in-depth itinerary.
How much does a holiday to Chile cost?
Our tailor-made Chile holidays start from £4,000 per person for 17 days on our Chile Active Adventure, to around £9,200 for 14 days on our Luxury Journey through Chile. Prices depend on the length of your trip, the season and your choice of lodges. Read our guide to how much a South America holiday costs.
Do I need a Visa to travel to Chile from the UK?
British travellers visiting Chile for less than 90 days don’t need a visa. When you arrive, immigration will record your entry and give you a Tourist Card (Tarjeta de Turismo), which may be on paper or electronic. Keep it safe: you’ll need it when you leave the country, and hotels may ask to see it, as foreign visitors paying in US dollars are usually exempt from Chile’s 19% hotel tax. Entry rules can change, so for the latest requirements, see the UK government’s travel advice for Chile
How safe is Chile for travel?
Many travellers ask us about safety before a holiday to Chile, and we tell them it’s generally considered one of the safest countries in South America to visit. It has a stable political environment, relatively low crime rates compared with many of its neighbours, and well-developed infrastructure for tourism.
As in any big city, take sensible precautions in Santiago and Valparaíso: keep an eye on your belongings, especially in busy areas and on public transport, and check the UK government’s travel advice before you go. We work with trusted local guides and ground teams throughout your trip, and our team is on hand around the clock while you travel, for extra peace of mind.
What are the top 3 cultural attractions in Chile?
Easter Island is one of the top cultural attractions to tick off on holidays to Chile. The remote landmass is famed for the fascinating megalithic statues known as Moai, which lie along its coastline. They are said to represent ancestral chiefs who were believed to be direct descendants of the gods.
Santiago is another of the top cultural attractions to tick off while on holiday in Chile. Almost half of the country’s entire population lives in this buzzing cosmopolitan destination. Here you can visit the Royal Court Palace (home to the National History Museum) and the Metropolitan Cathedral, which traces back to the 18th century.
Another of the best cultural spots to visit during Chile holidays is the wine region. This area produces some of the most highly regarded wines in the world, thanks to its remarkable soil diversity and varying microclimates. It’s no surprise that wine plays a significant role in Chilean culture.
What is the food like in Chile?
Prepare to embark on the culinary adventure of a lifetime during your holiday in Chile. The country’s remarkable biodiversity, multiple climates and diverse landscapes leave a wealth of exciting ingredients at the fingertips of Chileans, which results in a magnificent variety of local dishes.
One of the most famous local specialities is empanadas. They consist of crispy dough stuffed with ingredients like beef, onions and raisins, which is then baked or fried. Another classic Chilean dish is Cazuela.
This hearty delicacy features a stew filled with beef, chicken or lamb, along with pumpkin, corn and potato. Typical ingredients to expect throughout dishes during your holiday to Chile include squash, potatoes, onions, rice and tomatoes. You’ll also find most plates garnished with fresh coriander or parsley, and plenty of excellent seafood along the coast.
