Our Expert Tip

”You don’t need to be an experienced rider to enjoy life on a Córdoba estancia. With calm horses, relaxed rides, and wide-open landscapes, even beginners can saddle up and experience the gaucho spirit of the countryside”

Scarlett, Argentina Expert

Day 1-2: Buenos Aires

Your journey begins at the Alvear Icon, a sleek five-star hotel in the converted docklands of Puerto Madero, looking out over the river and the city skyline. Spend two mornings walking with a private guide, first through the old south of San Telmo, then the grand north of Recoleta.

On your second evening, join the Fogón Asado experience, a chef-led feast of Argentine barbecue cooked over open flames, with wines chosen to match each course.

Day 3-5: Patagonia

Fly south to El Calafate and drive out to Eolo, a lodge standing alone on its own estancia between the town and Los Glaciares National Park, with views across the steppe to Lago Argentino. Your stay is all-inclusive, with meals, wine and daily guided activities: walks and rides across the estancia, cycling and birdwatching.

One day is set aside for the Perito Moreno Glacier, where you’ll cross to the ice by boat and spend an unforgettable hour or so walking on it in crampons with a guide.

Day 6-9: Mendoza Wine Country

Fly north to Mendoza and continue south to the Uco Valley, where Casa de Uco or similar sits among its own vines with the snow-capped Andes as a backdrop. On a private tour, visit two of the valley’s acclaimed wineries for tastings and a long lunch; on another day, join a cooking class to learn the flavours of Mendoza’s kitchen. Between times, ride or cycle through the vineyards, walk in the foothills, or simply relax by the pool with a glass of Malbec.

Day 10-13: Córdoba

Fly on to Córdoba and head up into the Sierras to Los Potreros, a working estancia run by the same family for generations, for four full-board nights. Riding is at the heart of every day, on calm, well-trained horses that suit beginners as well as experienced riders (see Scarlett’s tip). Ride out across the hills to swim beneath hidden waterfalls, watch for condors overhead, and come back to home-cooked meals shared around the family table.

Day 14-15: Buenos Aires

Fly back to Buenos Aires for a final night. In the evening, your guide takes you to an underground milonga, where locals of every age take to the floor, a world away from the tourist tango shows. Transfer to the airport the following day for your flight home. Want to add Patagonia’s wildest corners? See our Patagonia holidays.

When to Go

Best time for a luxury Argentina holiday

The best time for this trip is October to April, when Patagonia’s lodges are open and the days are long and mild. February to April is harvest season in Mendoza, a wonderful time for wine lovers, while Córdoba’s hills are pleasant for riding for most of the year. Some Patagonian lodges close in winter, so ask us about your dates.
