Our Expert Tip

”For something really romantic with incredible views, take a lakeside picnic stop on the Seven Lakes drive”

Scarlett, Argentina Expert

Day 1-2: Buenos Aires

Toast your wedding in Buenos Aires with two nights at a boutique hotel in the heart of the city. A local guide leads you on foot through the city’s historic barrios, and on another morning you’ll pedal through the parks of Palermo and the grand avenues of Recoleta on a private bike tour. Save your appetite for the evenings: a late dinner at a traditional parrilla is the city’s favourite way to celebrate.

Day 3-5: El Chaltén

Fly south to El Calafate and continue by road to El Chaltén, a small mountain village where the trails begin at the end of the street, for three nights at Destino Sur or similar. Start with an afternoon stroll to the Chorrillo del Salto waterfall, then choose your big day: with a guide, the challenging climb to Laguna de los Tres, where Fitz Roy’s granite towers rise above a glacial lake, or the valley walk to Laguna Torre, where icebergs float beneath Cerro Torre.

Day 6-9: El Calafate

Back down the road to El Calafate, your base for four nights at Kosten Aike, in the heart of town. The big day is on the Perito Moreno Glacier itself: after a short boat crossing, guides fit your crampons for a mini-trek across the ice, past deep blue crevasses and sculpted ice towers.

Another day takes you by boat across Lago Argentino, between drifting icebergs, to remote Estancia Cristina and a lookout high above the Upsala Glacier. Leave a day free to simply enjoy the views together.

Day 10-12: Bariloche

Fly north to Bariloche, in Argentina’s Lake District, for three relaxed nights at Cacique Inacayal or similar, on the shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi. Paddle Lake Mascardi with a guide in Nahuel Huapi National Park, walk the forest trails of Llao Llao Park to lakeside viewpoints, and treat yourselves to Bariloche’s famous chocolate and craft beer. It’s a gentler pace after Patagonia, with time to simply enjoy each other’s company.

Day 13-15: San Martin de Los Andes

Collect your hire car and follow the Route of the Seven Lakes north to San Martín de los Andes, stopping wherever a view or a lakeside picnic tempts you.

Three nights in San Martín, on the shore of Lake Lácar, give you time to get out on the water by kayak or boat, or walk the quiet trails of Lanín National Park among ancient araucaria trees, with Lanín Volcano’s perfect white cone watching over you.

When to Go

Best time for an Argentina honeymoon

The best months for this honeymoon are November to March, when the trails around El Chaltén are open, the days are long and the Lake District is warm enough for kayaking and lakeside picnics. December to February is busiest, so book early. October and April are quieter, with spring flowers or autumn colours. Tell us your wedding date and we’ll plan around it.
