Day 1-2: Antigua

Arrive in Guatemala City and transfer to the magical city of Antigua, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and among the world’s best preserved colonial cities in the Americas.

On your full day here, head out into the Antigua Valley and explore the area by bike.

Day 3: San Andres Itzapa

Your four-day overland adventure to Lake Atitlan begins in the small town of San Andres Itzapa, home to a well-known shrine dedicated to the Mayan deity ‘San Simon’. Here, you’ll witness locals paying their respects and you may even light your own candle to bless the journey ahead.

After a short drive, your trek begins. The trail leads through fertile vegetable and fruit plantations before climbing into lush Guatemalan cloud forest and on to your camp for the night, saddled between two mountain peaks.

Day 4: Fuego Camp

Trek for approximately eight miles through forest, agricultural fields, coffee farms, and quaint Mayan villages.

Cross a hanging bridge over La Vega River and take in panoramic views of Fuego Volcano, one of the world’s most active.

End the day around the campfire, making traditional Guatemalan corn tortillas with a local women’s group.

Day 5: Agua Camp

Hike around nine miles to the highest point of the trek at just over 2,745 metres. Follow a pristine ridgeline with sweeping volcano views and traverse through cloud forest bursting with flora and fauna.

Along the way, meet local farmers and learn about traditional agricultural practices before venturing into the local Mayan community of Chuinimachicaj.

Here you’ll visit a woman’s cooperative that preserves the ancient art of backstrap weaving. Overnight at camp, overlooking Lake Atitlan in the distance below.

Day 6-7: Lake Atitlan

Descend through traditional farms and villages, stopping off at a scenic coffee finca to learn about small-batch coffee production before arriving at the majestic Lake Atitlan.

During your stay, visit two different Mayan villages, San Juan La Laguna and Santiago, meet with local artisans and weavers, and visit the famous temple of Saint Maximon, the Mayan deity first encountered on day three.

Day 8: Antigua

Enjoy a relaxed morning by the lake before returning to Antigua. Wander cobbled streets taking in the colourful architecture and street markets.

Overnight at your hotel and meet with your guide for a pre-trip briefing ahead of the next days adventure.

Day 9: Acatenango

Depart Antigua early and begin your challenging climb to Acatenango Base Camp. Hike through plantations and small villages, tropical cloud forest, high-alpine forest, and volcanic terrain, with breathtaking vistas along the way.

At base camp, stay in comfortable safari-style canvas tents overlooking the Antigua Valley and Fuego Volcano.

Spend the evening watching Fuego’s Volcano eruptions light up in the night sky.

Day 10-11: Tikal

Rise early to summit Acatenango. As the sunrises, enjoy the most incredible panoramic views of Fuego Volcano, the Antigua Valley, and Guatemalan highlands.

Descend the volcano and transfer to Guatemala City for your flight to Flores.

Spend a full day exploring Tikal, the largest excavated archaeological site on the American continent and set within pristine tropical forest.

Day 12-14: Mountain Pine Ridge

Cross into the lush jungle mountains of Belize and transfer to one of the region’s best eco-lodges.

Enjoy an authentic jungle experience and spend your time exploring the property’s private reserve either on foot or horse-back.

Choose to take a canoe trip down the Macal River, navigate the thrilling ATM caves, or simply relax in this jungle setting.

Day 15-17: Placencia

End your active Guatemala and Belize adventure at the charming sea-front fishing village of Placencia and stay at a barefoot lodge set on the white-sand beach and overlooking the calm Caribbean waters.

During your stay, relax and recharge and head out to the nearby reef to snorkel the world’s largest after the Great Barrier Reef.

Day 18: Belize city

Transfer back to Belize city for your international flight home.
