Detailed Colombia Itinerary


Day 1: Bogota

Welcome to Colombia! Discover colourful Bogota and enjoy a delicious family lunch and Ajiaco as it was at Isabels engagement. Walk and explore the streets with your guide while taking in the highlights and sites you’d prefer to see with your family. You will enjoy the best Ajiaco (a traditional soup) in town, before riding on a cable car to Monserrate Hill for the best views of the city.

Day 2-4: The Amazon and The Rainbow River

Arrive into the Amazon for your rainforest adventure. On your first night you will get to experience a night walk in the primary rainforest; discovering the nocturnal creatures of the jungle under moonlight. Hear the songs and see the dances of the jungle after dark; the sounds of frogs, flowers that only bloom at night and florescent mushrooms! An unforgettable experience.

Visit the Churuco Monkey project, set up to preserve these amazing creatures. Learn about their habitat and behaviours before hopping on a canoe through the winding jungle river. Try a delicious lunch with the Mocagua community and have a go at basket weaving.

A new day and a new jungle adventure; take a river boat out while in search of pink dolphins. You may be lucky enough to see these special Amazon River Dolphins which are only found where water quality is healthy.

Add on The Rainbow River

Take a wooden boat upstream the Guayabero River. Looking out for  wildlife on the river bank. On this version you still get to enjoy the sound and sights of the Colombian jungle. You finally reach Caño Cristalitos or the Rainbow River; here you can appreciate the Macarenia clavigera plant and bathe in small pools.

Enjoy two full days adventure around this breathtaking natural wonder. Inside the National Park you have plenty of time to hike, have lunch, bathe, and take a lot of pictures. You will get to enjoy an exciting serenade on the river flow with the rhythm of the Guayabero River. Bask under the beautiful sunset while listening to llanera music to be performed by a local artist with his guitar. You will have a chance to horse ride along morichales and the natural savannahs which is a once in a lifetime experience. See the colours and take in the incredible landscape on horseback.

Day 5-6: Bogota

En route to your hotel in Bogota stop at the pottery capital of Colombia, Raquira. Enjoy some slower- paced down time at your hotel where we can suggest local activities that your family can choose from. This is Brunos Town, a village straight out of a fairytale.

Head to a local farm where you will have a go at Colombian cooking, before visiting a workshop where you will learn about the traditional ‘Ruana’; Brunos clothing in the movie. End with a chocolate market where you can try a delicious warm cup with bread and cheese.

Day 7-8: Barichara

Continue your family holiday through Colombia with your guide, stopping at the fascinating town of Barichara. Here, take a cooking classes to learn how to make the famous Arepitas which are talked about in the movie, with good reason. Take walks through town overlooking canyons and countryside, visit museums and the Chapel of Santa Lucia.

Day 9-11: Medellin

Your days in ‘The City of Eternal Spring’ are spent exploring on foot and cable car. There is so much to see and do and learn; from the historical centre, to the moving Comuna 13 which is a transformative community that has escaped the difficult past, to graffiti street artists, and even a local sport; Tejo.

Take a day trip to Santa Elena seeing the most colourful flower imaginable, before heading to the Rosk of Guatape… if your family are feeling active you can have a go climbing the rock and see the magical views on top. Throughout, you will be trying delicious local food and testing your pallet with culinary delights.

Day 12-13: Coffee Region

Taste the best coffee in South America! Learn about the production from bean to cup. A family of coffee growers will welcome you and show you through the coffee plantations, sharing their best-kept secrets and the soul of coffee in a true, inspiring story.

Journey to the Cocora Valley where you can see rare parrots and distinct palm trees. Meet your guide and head into the forest to plant some palms trees. Day 14-15: Cartagena & the beach

Your family holiday to Colombia finishes in Cartagena; perfect for exploring on foot with your guide, taking in the colourful streets. Try something different with a ‘seven paradises’ food tour. Try delicious courses from Colombian and mixed Caribbean cuisine, small plates and delicious nibbles.

Finally, experience some local music. A musical group of Vallenato will entertain you so dance and sing Colombia mi Encanto! Afterwards, for some beach time head to the Rosario Islands on a private boat trip. Snorkel, kayak, swim, take a walk around and lap up a delicious picnic lunch. Day 16: Depart
