April marks the start of the dry season in Peru, meaning the iconic views of Machu Picchu are at their greenest after weeks of rain. It is also the perfect time to tackle the famous Inca Trail, either in full or the short one day version (no camping required), which has just reopened after its annual clean-up.
Do it Differently - Combine these iconic sights with immersive cultural activities hosted by the Sacred Valley's indigenous Misminay community.
April in the Galapagos marks one of the warmest times of the year (approx. 30 degrees), making the waters around the islands particularly calm and comfortable for the swimming and snorkelling activities included on all trips.
Do It Differently - Try a private island-hopping adventure, exploring the archipelago from rustic lodges on Santa Cruz, Isabela and Floreana Islands.
The stifling summer heat and crowds in North and Central Argentina have dissipated by April, with the hot spots like Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Salta and Iguazu averaging a very comfortable 22-27 degrees.
Patagonia is still accessible but getting very cold, with some lodges closing for the winter, however the views are unbeatable on a clear autumn day.
Do It Differently - Go truly off-the-beaten-path with a private 4x4 adventure across the high altitude 'Puna' from Salta. Visit multi-coloured lagoons, red rock deserts, blinding white salt pans, and unique pummice stone fields (pictured).
Ever wanted to come face to face with the famous, endangered, iconic Mountain Gorillas? Usually you’ll need to secure your trekking permits 6-12 months in advance, but with April being one of the wetter months (worth noting no month is truly “dry” here) and advance bookings impacted by Covid, there are still permits over Easter available at the time of writing (28th Jan 22).
Do It Differently - This region isn't all about Gorillas, and we strongly encourage at least two weeks to explore some one of Africa's most stunning landscapes, and a remarkable range of wildlife... including tree-climbing lions!
Central to Northern Chile (i.e. Santiago & The Winelands up to the Atacama Desert) are true year-round destinations, and April offers fewer crowds in the Atacama alongside spectacular autumnal leaves in the winelands.
Depending on what you are looking for, this can also one of the best or worst months for visiting the towering mountains and glaciers of Patagonia… it will be freezing cold (literally), some lodges are already closed, but the crowds have thinned out and it is the perfect time to try to spot the elusive puma.
Do It Differently - Linger longer in the Atacama to fully enjoy this spectacular destination. Classic tours will give you 3-4 days, but we suggest a full week to explore the full array of jaw-dropping landscapes and immersive activities.
April is one of the best times to visit Costa Rica for beautiful sunshine, dry-ish conditions (there’s no true dry season in a country of tropical rainforests), and excellent wildlife spotting.
As a result the hotels and lodges are usually booked up some six months in advance, however this year we know everything is different so get in contact and we’ll see what we can put together for you!
Do It Differently - Go Slow! Costa Rica packs enough diversity to explore volcanoes, rainforests, coffee farms, Caribbean beach vibes, Pacific surf towns, misty cloud forests, whale watching trips, white water rafting, canopy tours, and so much more without needing to drive more than a few hours at a time.
