If you’re considering a holiday to Peru and wondering how long to stay, we always recommend setting aside at least 13 days to explore this wonderful country. Doing so will give you sufficient time to tick off many of the country’s most incredible attractions, such as the Sacred Valley, Cuzco and Lima.

However, if you’re eager to delve deeper when you travel to Peru, such as exploring the Amazon rainforest, you may wish to extend your trip and stay longer

The dry season, spanning from May to September, is widely regarded as the best time to holiday in Peru. With clear skies and pleasant evenings, this period is ideal for exploring Cusco, embarking on treks, and experiencing the wonders of Machu Picchu.

Additionally, the Peruvian Amazon teems with wildlife during this season as they can easily be spotted congregating along the riverbanks due to the reduced rainfall.

While April and October fall under the country’s shoulder season, making the weather more unpredictable, they still offer fantastic months to visit. December to March, on the other hand, is commonly hailed as the worst time to holiday in Peru due to the wettest season.

The best way to travel in Peru is with a bespoke travel company that can tailor your itinerary to match your interests and time constraints in an environmentally conscious way.

With a guided tour, you can relax and enjoy the trip as local experts efficiently navigate you on a tailor-made adventure.

This often entails a mix of transportation modes, including flights, trains, and private transfers. However, we try to avoid air travel where possible. Some areas are actually best travelled on foot. Trekking in Peru allows you to intimately discover the stunning landscapes of the Sacred Valley and the Amazon Rainforest.

When it comes to adventure travel in Peru, conquering Machu Picchu, the country’s most famous high-altitude trek, is always near the top of the list. Its legendary Inca Trail spans approximately 26-28 miles and is considered medium-moderate difficulty.

While it can be challenging, it is one of the highlights of Peru and those of all ages and abilities are often seen checking off this iconic hike.

When planning Peru holidays, it is important to consider the country’s weather patterns to ensure you experience its cities, wildlife, and landscapes at their best. The country has a tropical climate with high temperatures and rainfall throughout the year.

To tick off the highlights of Peru with the weather on your side, you may want to visit during the dry season which takes place from May to September. During this time, temperatures typically range from 15°C to 20°C and rainfall is minimal, providing ideal conditions for exploring the country’s breathtaking outdoor scenery.
