Detailed Brazil Itinerary
Day 1-4: Rio De Janeiro
Your journey through Southern Brazil begins. Rio De Janeiro is the world’s most beautifully-positioned city with so much to see and do. We suggest extended time here to include Corcovado (for the Statue of Christ The Redeemer) and Sugarloaf Mountain, and also an exhilarating hike up through Tijuca Rainforest to an alternative view of the city. To soak up the atmosphere and vibrant culture of Rio, spend an evening enjoying Rio’s famous nightlife (with our friendly local guide) and finally, be sure to factor in time at leisure on the world-famous beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana.

Day 5-8: Ilha Grande
From the bustling city to green paradise, head to Ilha Grande for some time in the ‘paradise islands’. Staying at one of our favourite boutique beachfront pousadas, your time in Ilha Grande will be all about island hopping and nature. On a private boat with your expert guide you will seek out lesser known islands away from the crowds. Swim in warm clear waters and discover white-sand paradise coves. Enjoy an incredible hike to Pico do Papagio viewpoint, have a delicious picnic lunch and cool off in the sea. Afterwards descend to Lopez Mendez beach, regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Slow down the pace and enjoy evening strolls barefoot on the beach, take time to enjoy some delicious fresh seafood and a cold caipirinha. Continue your slow travel holiday through Southern Brazil.
Day 9-12: Paraty
Continue your slow travel journey to the UNESCO World Heritage Town of Paraty. This picture-perfect town, is as interesting as it is beautiful. Previously the gateway for all precious gems and stones departing Brazil, the rich history and culture of Paraty and its people can be seen everywhere. Take time to explore the unique architecture and cobbled streets, grabbing a bite to eat in some amazing locally owned restaurants. Grab your hiking boots and head up to the Mamangua Peak. A fantastic hike where you’re rewarded with a panoramic view of the coastline. Take a kayak out for the afternoon, pitch up on a paradise beach and enjoy a cold beer with a freshly caught lunch prepared by local fisherman. Beach life doesn’t get more authentic than this. Take a buggy tour into the rich forest or a guided boat trip through thick mangroves while looking out for colourful fish and rare birds.

Day 13-14: Curitiba
So now for somewhere unique and off the beaten track. A short flight takes you to the capital of Parana; an exciting modern city full of colour, culture and cuisine. Furthermore it’s considered the ecological capital of the country. Tread where other tourists don’t and learn about the real Brazil. Visit local street food markets tasting delicious light bites and unusual local delicacies. Include a visit to the botanical gardens which are known to be the best in Brazil. Find out more about this and other authentic cultural highlights along your journey.
Day 15-17: Morretes
Embark on one of the most unique and scenic train journeys in Brazil. This three hour journey takes in 100km, passing through the stunning mountains of the Serra do Mar. Witness the imposing passes and untouched rainforest. This is slow travel at its best. The quaint colonial town of Morretes awaits you, where hiking, swimming and river kayaking are all on the doorstep. Our local expert guide will take you to sample ‘barreado’ a dish traditionally prepared in a clay pot, made of pork or beef and often accompanied with fruit slices. Escape the tourist trail and discover the authentic flavours of rural Brazil.

Day 18-21: Ilha Do Mel
Finally, end your slow travel holiday through Southern Brazil on a real high at Ilha Do Mel, which is Portuguese for ‘Honey Island’. This secret paradise is only accessed by boat, keeping it untouched and preserving the local nature and marine life. The 23k stretch of beach is a haven for those seeking rustic adventure and pure tranquillity. With cars banned, time here is spent walking, biking, boating or even surfing! As well as nature reserves and stunning beaches, the island has many historical references; once the defender against the Spanish invasion. A true Travel Differently favourite, time on Ilha Do Mel is heavenly. A hike to the lighthouse at sunset is our top tip, take a good camera.
