Detailed Colombia Itinerary
Day 1-3: Bogota
Our active Colombia holiday starts in vibrant and colourful Bogota; the city steeped in the old and new. You start in the heart of Colombia’s culinary soul at the iconic Paloquemao Market, a must-visit. Explore colonial downtown on foot with its museums, restaurants, and vibrant buzz. Find bars peppered amid 300-year-old homes, churches, and convents before visiting the most extensive collection of pre-Hispanic gold works in the world at the Museo de Oro.
Day 4-6: Yopal
Ready to see untouched Colombia? Head to Colombia’s cowboy country, Yopal. This ecological paradise is a great introduction to the incredible landscapes this huge country offers. Get your walking boots on and head with your guide to hike one of the many amazing trails in Yopal. Do something really different; jump on horseback and gallop through the floodplains. Racing through rich colours and awesome landscapes, this is a true travel highlight.
Yopal offers a real adventure and is a paradise for wilderness and nature lovers; look out for rare birds and wildlife all around. Visit a working ranch, before taking a boat out to try traditional fishing. End your energetic days with a sundowner watching over the savannah. This is real rural Colombia; back to nature and away from cities.
Day 7-9: Coffee Region
The next stop on our active holiday through Colombia is the iconic coffee region. With your guide explore the private coffee estate of the Valencia Family and learn the process from bean to cup. Journey to beautiful Solento; an endearing Andean town and its luscious landscapes is the gateway to the Coroca valley.
This is the time for more outdoor adventures… choose from many hiking routes, through thick plantations, up to amazing viewpoints, and away from the tourist crowds. Jump on a a bike and cycle past the famous towering palm trees and through colonial towns, and board a bamboo raft for some river cruising and scenic views. Get cultural by visiting traditional artisans, with their incredible weaving and basketry work. We suggest staying in a beautiful eco-hotel overlooking the rolling hills, to really relax at the end of each active day.
Day 10-14: Lost City Trek
Ready for a challenge on your Colombia active adventure holiday holiday? The iconic Lost City Trek is perfect for those looking for adventure; walk through unbelievable Colombian scenery, and truly get away from it all. The Lost City Trek is not only a physical challenge but an unforgettable cultural experience. Fly into Santa Marta and spend the day getting ready for the trek with a briefing from your guide. Choose from the 4 or 5 day option, each with a private guide, or a small group for a more social experience.
The trek is tough in places, you need a good level of fitness. You’re rewarded with a lush green route passing through thick jungle, indigenous communities, spectacular views and untouched wilderness. Cool down in rivers, meet local farmers as you go, learning about their way of life, and experience a Colombia you never knew existed. A really special experience, where unlike The Inca Trail, you may not see another tourist for hours on end. Stay in simple but comfortable lodging, with hearty food, lots of chances for photo stops and end of day chats and drinks.
Day 15-17: Tayrona National Park & Beach
After the epic Lost City Trek, you’ll have earnt some relaxation time on our Colombia active adventure trip. Stay in a lovely boutique hotel near Tyrona with beach access, giving you the best of both worlds. Choose to do very little and chill out on the palm fringe beaches and take a dip in the ocean to cool down. Mix in some wonderful visits into Tayrona National Park. The park is teeming with wildlife and is covered by virgin tropical forest. Choose from adventurous or ambling nature trails, exciting river rafting, visit indigenous communities and witness remains of ancient settlements.
Day 18: Cartagena & depart
End your Colombia active adventure holiday back in Cartagena for your flight home. If you would prefer to add on some days in this historical city, let our team know.
